“This Light Shines” is an interactive digital art exhibition that requires a community’s love and support to bloom. http://thislightshines.com
To honor those we’ve loved and lost, we light candles: at churches, on lakes, and some send lanterns into the heavens. The goal of this project is to continue that tradition on-line, and light up 1,500 candles on an interactive map, and around the world.The project is currently being funded on Indiegogo. http://igg.me/at/thislightshines To fully realize this project our fundraising efforts must end: January 17th, 2014When you support our Indiegogo campaign, you’ll receive a hand-made, numbered candle as a gift, which you’ll be able to register on http://thislightshines.com. From there, you’ll be able to dedicate the light to the memory of someone you’ve loved, and we’ll pin-point the flame on an interactive map. Using the hashtag #shines4 will cause your flame to blossom into a Lotus Flower for eight hours. Each time you think of your loved one, you can tweet the map to keep their blossom full.Why are we doing this?We lost a dear friend in 2012. Adi (ah-dee) sold candles on Etsy, but when he fell sick the business went to the wayside. We retrieved the remaining supplies from his family and began to develop a new candle in his honor, centered around the Buddhist belief of rebirth.The essence of the Buddhist belief in rebirth is that our energy is carried forward. We are considered to be an endless energy passing from one to the next, much like the flame of a candle lighting another. The flame transfers, but the new flame carries its own identity. -
